What is prostate cancer?

The prostate is a gland in men that produces a fluid that makes up about 30% of semen. It is found below the bladder, in front of the rectum. Prostate cancer develops when cells in a man’s prostate gland start to grow uncontrollably. Most, but not all, prostate cancers grow slowly.

Recently diagnosed?

If you’ve been diagnosed with prostate cancer based on an elevated PSA level, what you now need most of all is clarity. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is the most effective way to find out if you actually have prostate cancer, with a detection rate of 85-100%.

Elevated PSA level?

PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) is a protein produced in the prostate gland. An elevated PSA level can be an indicator of prostate cancer, but is never in itself a diagnosis. Too often, an elevated PSA level can lead to an unnecessary biopsy.

Why NanoKnife?

NanoKnife is a revolution in prostate cancer treatment, using IRE (Irreversible Electroporation) technology to destroy cancer cells with ultra-fast exposure to a powerful electric current that doesn’t touch surrounding tissue, in a minimally-invasive, pain-free way.

IRE with NanoKnife

The NanoKnife IRE Soft Tissue Ablation System uses IRE (Irreversible Electroporation) to destroy cancer cells without touching important areas nerves, the urinary sphincter, the intestinal wall, veins and arteries — in and around the prostate. So the impotence and incontinence that can happen with traditional treatments can usually be avoided with NanoKnife.

The IRE technology we use in NanoKnife is based on extremely fast, extremely strong bursts of electric current that make it the ideal new approach to prostate cancer treatment.

We have successfully treated over 600 people at our Vitus Prostate Center in Offenbach am Main, near Frankfurt, in Germany.

Prof. Dr. Michael K. Stehling speaks about IRE with NanoKnife.

Our patients’ stories

"Look at the guidelines." These were the words my previous urologist said when I asked him about alternatives to prostatectomy, the only procedure he recommended after a diagnosis of prostate cancer in June 2016 (Gleason Score 7a, PSA 3.86, 2 of 12 punch biopsies positive). I was 49 years old at the time... MORE

Last week was November 2, 2017. Exactly five years ago, I got a diagnosis of prostate cancer in Vienna. And with it I got my urologist’s urgent recommendation to take “the high road”radical removal of the prostateto avoid a high risk of metastases, a matter of great concern for someone my age at the time: 46... MORE
